As we continue to transfer tapes from in and around the JEMS archives,
we occasionally stumble onto something fun.

That link is new to Pete's amazing Brucebase and it captures all the
shows for which there are known recordings in the early years.
Needless to say 1973 has relatively few.

This is one of them.

Binghamton '73 is by Pete's count the 10th earliest known recording of
the E Street Band and captures Bruce opening for Chicago. Now if you
are like me, you think that there are only poor quality recordings of
Bruce opening for Chicago if any at all. Well, turns out there is a
listenable one and this is it. Not excellent by any stretch but much
better than I knew there to be from a Chicago-opening set. Hell, I
heard worse on E Street Radio just yesterday.

We had this on DAT for years and years marked as transferred from the
master tape, although I don't know who recorded it. What I do know is 
that our copy is materially better than any circulating copy and now 
that I spent some time mastering it, it sounds even better. Needless 
to say the set list is unique:

4. Secret to the Blues (cuts)
5. Take Me Out to the Ballgame
6. Seaside Bar Song
7. Thundercrack (cut)

And even with the cuts, this recording gives a glimpse into the early
live performance days not offered on any other extant tape. I hope
